Happy New Year

The Christmas and New Years period has been very hectic at the orphanage.  A lot of late nights, a lot of fireworks and the normal issues that go along with over 50 kids all living together.  Mexico celebrates the Day of the Kings today so we are due for more fireworks and more presents for the kids.  They have been very lucky over christmas with heaps of donations.

Christian, 17-ish...Not his real beard....

We also have had a team of 11 Americans who came on a short term trip to teach surfing and do some bible studies with the kids.  They stayed for a week and took kids surfing most days.  Whilst they weren´t required to get the kids to do ´jobs´ they helped out by entertaining the kids and were very generous in their donations and things they left behind.  Petrina and I now have extra contacts in the States to stay with on our journey home.

Its a tradition in Mexico to re-paint the facade of your house every Christmas.  Or it could be that the paint is cheap and nasty and they don't prep the surfaces so it actually needs re-doing every year...  But hey, its a nice tradition....

We take a 7 day  vacation on the 10th Jan where we will be heading to Puerto Escondido.  Its a 12 hour bus ride but apparently the bus is very comfortable and safe.  We are VERY much looking forward to the break.
Petina enjoying helado (ice cream) at our local parlour.
The result of a Typhoon a few years ago.  A really good surf spot.... not that you can tell from this photo but the point nearby was about 6ft on the day this was taken.

Adios,
S and P
