Colonial cities of Mexico

This blog contains mainly images from our stay in Oaxaca and Mexico Cities during our journey back Stateside.

OAXACA CITY
A great eclectic city, home to Tequila's brother Mezcal.  This was our last real Mexican experience, where indigenous people would be seen wearing traditional outfits amongst the tourists and other locals alike.

Cactus, so many different types.  We could do a whole blog on the different types

Oaxaca City was surrounded by mountains, needless to say the journey in and out is a little windy.  It took us well over 6 hours to travel 300km by mini van out of the city.

The Indigenous locals in the main street of the city.

Ice cream, so good, so cheap.

When in Rome......... Our shots of Mezcal.  You drink it (and Tequila) slowly, savouring the flavors.  It is served with a special salt mix and lemon or lime and other salty pleasures such as nuts.  Mezcal is more smoky than Tequila, but very similar.

Before....

...during consumption...

....and after!

A local free trade store.  We will miss the colors of Mexico.

One big broom

Fresh is Best.....  This is a great idea to sell small serves of fresh vege.

Chillies, if it exists it was sold here.

A meat hall, this was one of the cleanest halls we saw.

Prawns anyone,  they have only been sitting outside for 3 days.

Cactus leaves, used in soups and salads.

Baloons galore, how do you decide who to buy from?

A local joining us on the mini bus ride out of town.

Circa Oaxaca City.  Many a Donkey was seen pulling carts of goods.

MEXICO CITY

One of the worlds most busiest and largest cities.  It wasn't as frightening as we thought, but we definately liked other Mexico cities more.  To be honest, this was our last few days in Mexico so we just wanted to be in the States where we could eat whatever we wanted and not worry where the closest toilet was.  We are both looking forward to seeing a Doctor back home to kill off these parasites that have been with us for many weeks now.

Yum.  MolĂ©.  Steve loves this chocolate based savoury sauce.  The best one he had was in Mexico City, runner up however was back home at El Torito West End.  Muy Bonito!!
Steve updating our blog in our very 60's hotel room.

Zocolo (Town Square), Mexico City

The Zocolo again, different angle.  The Zocalo is surrounded by Government buildings and is the site for many protests.

The Zocolo again, showing samples of the quiet protesting during our time there.  It was close to elections so groups were doing all they could to get their message out peacefully.

The main Mall in Mexico City, a little busy.

The lights gave a count down to pedestrians, this light says there is 11 seconds left to cross the road

The view from one of the better bars in Mexico City, this is looking back on a excavation of ruins that they've decided to excavate.  They are knocking down old buildings to do this!
A close up photo of the new discovery as mentioned above

Busker, Mexico City style.  Wind a stick and the music box would play tunes.  His friends would stand around asking passers by for money.  10 meters up the road was another one, another 15 meters past that another one....... you get the picture...

Getting close to USA now,  Sanborns is huge in Mexico City.
Adios Mexico, bring on the States.
